Lithium built the modern battery industry, but it comes with real supply-chain baggage — cobalt tied to documented labor abuses in the Congo, and lithium brine extraction straining some of the driest land on Earth. Sodium-ion batteries sidestep both, at the cost of some energy density. That's a bad trade for your phone and a potentially great one for a battery the size of a shipping container that never has to move.
